Writing isn’t easy on a good day. It’s challenging when you sit down to do what you need to do on your own terms. The difficulty is compounded when you need to write on someone else’s terms. One of the big questions students, amateurs, and professional writers consistently ask is, “Where can I find sources for my writing?” It’s a tricky game, but I think I’ve put together some pretty good ideas that may just help you out. Click through to the post to read my ideas on finding agreeable topics, tips for researching, as well as where to located those oh so sought after sources. If you’ve got any ideas of your own, please let me know in the comment section at the bottom of the page. Thanks! Continue reading…
My Christmas Story
I’m not sure how I began writing this story. I believe I sat at my desk one day with other intentions, but once I started typing, I couldn’t stop. My Christmas Story is a culmination of fact and fiction – probably more fact than fiction. I have had many interesting friendships throughout my life and have become rather attached to almost all of them. I’ve learned a lot and have taught a lot. It’s only when I look back upon these friendships years later that I realize just how important they were to me. I hope you get something out of this story. It was fun to write and I think of it often, especially around the holidays. Enjoy. Continue reading…
Walking the Plank
This is one of my favorite posts. I wrote this from the heart. As I mention at the start of it, I wasn’t sure where things were going to go, but once I got rolling, it all came together, piece of piece. It’s a story of things that can happen while attending elementary school as a child. When I was young, I was constantly trying to get out of doing things I found unappealing and trust me when I say – I found many things unappealing. In this case, my goal was to avoid chorus class at all costs. While my classmates were attending this dreaded class, a friend and I managed to engage in other activities. That is, until we were summoned to chorus. Yes, I was forced to go. Click through to read about what transpired and what I did about it. Continue reading…
What’s in a Story?
Writing and storytelling – there’s nothing like them. There really isn’t. These two things have been connecting humanity for ages. A good story will last for generations or longer and can bring peace or anguish to just about anyone. And when you think about it, storytelling is just as popular today as it’s ever been throughout history. Just take a peek at how many books are sold each and every day. In this post, I discuss the art of storytelling and I even toss in one or two of my own. What’s more, I lead you to another blog where the stories are rich, wonderful, and rewarding. You’ll want to see this. Continue reading…
Writing is a Lot Like Photography
Sometimes it’s nice to sit and write what comes to mind. It’s a simple process really. I actually do it quite often. In the case of this post, I sat down at my desk with nothing to write, in particular, and ended up with a long winded post about everyday life. I put my usual flair into it and made the entire post introspective, which is what I enjoy doing most. I wrote about driving and walking and thinking and going about my daily routine. By the end though, I told of something unfortunate that happened during one of Laura’s and my walks. The story wraps up the post well, but it’s still painful to read about and remember. Even as the years pass by. Continue reading…
The Greatest Human Tragedy
If you’re not in the mood to read somewhat of a deep post, you may want to pass this one by. I was in one of my “thinking” moods when I wrote it and more than I expected came out. It is one of my favorite posts ever written by me though, so if you’re up for it, please give it a read. I love the questions I ask in it and I love how I recalled certain events in my life. This type of writing really is special to me – I get to think back and share those thoughts with others. Continue reading…
Stand Up Sparring
Writing about my life, thoughts, and personal growth is fun for me. That’s what this post is about. I walk through some business ideas I’ve had, what I think about my days in college, and some of my plans for the future. This is another one of my “thinking” posts, so get ready for that. As usual though, I suspect you’ll get a kick out of it, so click through and enjoy. Continue reading…
Walk Ten Thousand Miles, Read Ten Thousand Books
Thinking certainly is a lonely man’s sport and I have no doubt that Jason Silva has done a lot of thinking. In this post, I introduce the idea of thinking and then talk about a conversation I once had with a dear friend of mine. Finally, I lead you to a video in which Jason explains to an interviewer how the mind works and how certain drugs have influenced the course of humanity. Interesting stuff. Continue reading…
Hammonasset Beach State Park, Connecticut
Hammonasset Beach State Park in Connecticut is one of the most lovely beaches I’ve been to in my life. While we were living in Connecticut, Laura and I frequented this park quite often and every time we visited, it seemed like we were more delighted than the time before. The area offers wonderful views of the Long Island Sound and plenty of beach on which to walk, jog, or bike. Personally, I went for the beauty of it all. It’s nearly unmatched. And there’s just something about looking over those small waves all the way to New York. I sometimes felt Like Gatsby. In this post, I don’t do a lot of writing. It’s more about the photos. Please click through to enjoy some of my best. Continue reading…
Hurricane Irene
The Hurricane named Irene caused power outages across the northeastern part of the United States for weeks. For Laura and me, ours lasted only eight days. It was a trying time and one that reminded us of how leisurely our lives had become. And how much we truly valued electricity. There’s another side to the story though – and that side deals with both the good and the not so good of humanity and what we’ve become as a people. Click through to read about it and if you’re so inclined, feel free to leave a comment. Continue reading…
