Autumn is coming to an end here in Maine and it’s critical to get outside to see the beautiful colors and falling leaves if you want to experience some of what the Northeast has to offer. After all, New England is the home to fall colors and in my opinion, it can’t be beat. Especially in northern New England. Between the chilly air and the range of wonderful tree types (maple, ash, dogwood, oak, poplar, and so much more) we have, the colors and experiences can be just stunning.
This past Sunday was the perfect weather for a drive. After clear skies and a severe drought for two long months previously, things are beginning to turn around. The clouds are beginning to move in, so it’s a hit or miss when it comes to pleasant weather. The good thing is, we’ve been getting some much needed rain, so the streams, rivers, and ponds are beginning to fill back up. I was getting nervous there for a while that my well was going to run dry. We’ve got a shallow one that’s yet to fail us. I wasn’t looking forward to breaking our streak.
Visiting Boothbay Harbor, Maine
My lady and I have lived in Maine for the past seven years and haven’t yet visited Boothbay Harbor. We’ve spent time in Camden, Bar Harbor and Acadia, Rangeley, Kingfield, and many other small towns, but somehow haven’t made our way to Boothbay. Which is weird because it’s one of the good ones that everyone talks about. So, we picked up and took the one and a half hour drive east to the coast on Sunday and had ourselves a good time.
Boothbay has a lot to offer, but if you’re just going for the day, you’ll find that it’s a touristy walk-around town. There are many shops to visit for t-shirts and taffy and whale watching boat rides as well. And if you’re looking for seafood for lunch, you’d be in the right place. From what I saw, there’s no shortage of that. So, while Camden seems to be more of a realistic town in which to live and make a life, Boothbay is one to visit for the day or for vacation. There’s a lot to do that’ll keep you busy and the sightseeing is spectacular.
The moment we got out of our car, we began snapping away with our cameras, so we’ve got lots of photos. I believe I’ll be uploading 50 of them or so into this post. I hope you enjoy.
Have you been to Boothbay Harbor in Maine? If so, was it a one time visit or are you a return visitor? What did you think of it? Did you like it? Please let me know in the comment section below. Also, if you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer them the best I can.
I hope you enjoyed the photos and again, if you have anything to add, please do so below. Thanks!

My family and I visited Boothbay last month and it was absolutely beautiful. Our Nephew is a fireman for the Coast Guard on the harbor so we paid him a visit. We would definitely go back for a second trip. Worth the 6 hour drive!
