At least ten inches of snow fall on western Maine.
We never know how winter will arrive in western Maine. In December of 2022, we hit a high of 70°. The year before, much of Maine flooded on Christmas day. I remember standing in the woods watching our small brook overflow its banks to wash much of our broken trees and brush downstream. This year, it’s been downright chilly with our first snow falling before Thanksgiving. While the result of that quick storm was lovely to look at, it did hinder travel for so many. That’s the price to pay, I suppose.
Now that two weeks have passed, another storm has come and gone – this time, the storm was much longer lasting and the snow was (and is) much deeper. It is beautiful though. Waking up to 4° temperatures this morning certainly was brisk, but the fact that the snow remains clinging to the trees three days after the storm can lift the spirits of just about anyone who ventures outdoors.
I captured a few photos to give you an idea of what I’m referring to. It’s no joke – winter can be unexpectedly brutal and lovely in Maine, all at the same time. You can slip and fall while shoveling your driveway and lie on your back looking up at the sky. While pain tears through your back, you’ll likely think, “Boy, it’s actually pretty nice out here.” Enjoy!
This brings me to the end of another post. I sincerely hope you enjoyed it and, if so, I invite you to leave a comment down below to let me know your thoughts. It’s always nice to get feedback on the things I share.
